Nkoroi Ongata Rongai -- Ngong Hills, NairobiAt the home of Mr Samuel Kungu is another WindCruiser CS15TDR with solar hybrid system. We erected the tower and generator on 12th Dec 2005.
The hills around rise gently to Ngong Hills. This tower was adequately high to capture the wind power for the home.
Ngong Hills seen in the distance. On Ngong hills are two wind power generators. These generators are visible from this home.
The Tower base ready with mounting bolts.
Piecing up the tower by Martin, Alex and Morgan. Notice the bending of the trees in the background.
30 feet up and its already getting very windy.
The last 10 feet length making 40 feet. Martin and Morgan fixing the machine support on top of the tower. Pulling up the generator piece-by-piece -- Morgan and Alex pushing the load upwards while Martin at the top of the tower. Mounting the 14 feet fiberglass propeller. Test flight. The generator picking speed in no wind (well we were 40 feet below it!!). The evening was calm and we monitored battery levels from 8 volts to 11.5 volts in less than 20 minutes. Martin and Morgan connecting the charge controller and the battery. |
