RuaiOn the outskirts of Nairobi City in Ruai stands this marvelous home far from the electricity grid. May 28th 2005 Mr John Mwangi installed a WindCruiser CS15TDR 12 VDC.
This magnificent home stands on a hillside facing the plains of Ruai.
The surrounding landscape is smooth rolling hills and at a distance the Kilimambogo hill is visible. The Nairobi Southern by-pass can be seen down the valley.
We set up the tilt poles in the pit.
We drilled the pole holes. This pole is a treated 20 foot blue gum tree from a timber yard in Kikuyu.
The propeller behind Mike is a 10 footer hollow fiberglass prop.
The generator with the charge controller. This charge controller diverts power when voltage hits 14.5 to a dummy load. The generator is a 3 phase 2 rotor with six cable going into the CC.
Alex fixed the machine support on the wooden pole.
Raising the pole. We could not raise the generator on the pole since it was too heavy.
Mike finally got up the pole and mounted the generator.
Gideon and Alex pulling the wires into the consumer unit in the house.
Gideon connecting the charge controller and battery bank
Mike and Gideon testing the equipment. Notice the six cables going into the yellow charge controller.
Lights on. We finished the job at night. Testing the house circuitry with John. |
